Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas Family and Friends,

“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.  These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.  Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”   1 Peter 1:6-9

The above scripture has carried us through this year. I also know it has carried many other families through a hard year, as well.  You may be one of those families, or you are close to a family that is going through a hardship. I pray that if you are going through hardships that you are able to rest in His truth.  As we get ready to celebrate our Savior’s birthday this year, Kevin and I are humbled to know that He has walked with us and carried us through this entire year.  “Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; He rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice.  Blessed are all who wait for Him.” Isaiah 30:18 We are comforted by this truth, as this year of hardships has revealed areas in each of our lives that we are not proud of and need focus and healing. We are so thankful for our family and close friends that have allowed us to be completely transparent, open, and real without passing judgment.  We truly did need your prayers and support.  We thank the Lord for you!

Back in January when Nicole’s surgeon said she was confident that she removed all the cancer we were ready to get home, recover, and move on with life.  It did not cross our minds Nicole would have complications and chronic pain this whole year.  As hard as this journey has been on each of us, individually, and on our marriage we both can say we want to go through whatever it takes for our faith to be genuine.  The Lord knew exactly what it would take to get our hearts cleaned out and renewed.  “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast. To Him be the power forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 5:10   We both are in the process of healing emotionally and Nicole is still healing physically, but we are doing the best we have all year.

This year our primary focus, other than the obvious, has been making memories as a family.  We have put most of our efforts into enjoying our son, Logan.  He has brought so much laughter and joy in our home.  He turns  2 years old on December 30th.  His big interests right now are cars, hats, cookies, apples, singing and dancing, books, balls, and falling down on purpose.  His best talent is being a copy cat!

As we close our Christmas letter we want to thank you for allowing us to focus on what the Lord has been doing in our lives to strengthen our faith.  It is always easy to write out all of our physical accomplishments and share all the wonderful things we have going on, but reality is life can be hard at times.  There are always blessings even in hard times. We must put our faith in our Lord and Savior and keep our minds focused on the Truth.  “Let your mind dwell on these things only: truth, honor, what is right, pure, lovely, what is of good reputation, what is excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8

In Christ,
Kevin, Nicole and Logan

A Whole Lot of FUN Combined!

Kevin and I have decided that we are going to start making our birthdays a little more special than we have been doing in the past. On my birthday, December 1st, I chose to have the family meet at my favorite restaurant, Rainbow Cafe, for lunch. As always, it was wonderful. I was spoiled rotten this year for my birthday. I got everything that I wanted. My mom and Nana went together and got me an essential oil diffuser. Which I have used almost every day since I plugged it in. I also got a hand blender, Willow Tree Figurine, boots, silicone mixing cups, wall shadow box, and boot socks. Yes, spoiled I am! After lunch all of us ladies went Christmas shopping. This was the longest time I have spent shopping since my surgery. I literally shopped until I dropped. It was a great day!

Mommy smelling Logan. He loves to be smelled!

As of last month our little boy has developed a love for hats. After I help him get his hat on he says, "I cute." I hope his love for hats will last forever. He is so stinking adorable in his hats! I think his new hat obsession helped form his new friendship with Mario. I had no idea Logan would wake up and make a new friend one morning. When I ask him if he has a new friend he says, "Yes, Mario." Andy, Logan's birth father would be proud. It really is too cute for words!

Kevin and I are in the process of becoming debt free. It is not going to happen overnight, but we are taking big steps to make it happen.  We sold our 2011 Kia Sorento and immediately dropped the $300 payment. SCORE! We saved those payments along with other cash and bought our 1st cash vehicle. After much leg work we landed this 2003 Windstar Van. It checked out in great mechanical condition with our mechanic. There is some cosmetic things we need too fix once we save up cash.

I might be biased, but I believe Logan has one of the best dad's around. He can always gets the biggest giggles out of Logan. Logan's best friend, by far, is his daddy! While I am working behind the scenes making busy bags, planning crafts, and coming up with ideas to do as a family, Kevin and Logan are living it up together. It warms my heart to hear them as I work. I must admit I join in most of the time!

I introduced Logan to Psalty. It was a hit! I still remember
all the songs and lines as I watched it for the 1st time in years.
Logan has started to pretend. Right now his favorite thing to pretend is eating "hot" cereal. We have been working on sharing as we pretend to eat our cereal.  He also is always wanting to be like Mommy and wear my glasses. During the day he will come up to me and say, "Pretend, cereal please." I am looking forward to pretending more as his little mind develops more and more.

I got wonderful news at my last cancer recheck. There are no signs of the cancer returning and I have graduated to every 6 month appointments. We decided to have the family over for dinner and a bowling tourney on the Wii to celebrate. We all had a fun time together. There were lots of laughs as we all were a little animated at times! I am still thanking the Lord for His grace and mercy on my life.

Let is Snow!

The 1st big snow fall of Winter hit on a day Logan and I were home just hanging out. We took full advantage of the time we had and play out in the backyard. I think we spent more time getting dress and bundled up then we did playing in the snow. The important thing to know is that we had a great time. As long as Logan can get past the point of not liking the snow being wet, I think he may enjoy playing in the snow this year!

The Three of Us

FUN.  FALL.  FAMILY.

What Does a Bee Say?

For two days Logan would run around the house in his bee costume saying....bzzzzz.  It took him a a little bit to get the bee sound down, but once he did he was the cutest little bee around! He was buzzing around everywhere with all sorts of energy. I was in the kitchen one afternoon doing dishes and I noticed it was all of a sudden a little too quiet for comfort. I turned off the water, dried my hands, and slowly went to check on my little bee. To my surprise I found him all buzzed out...crashed on the couch!

On Halloween night we took Logan to Grandpa and Grandma Youel's house and Aunt Tami's house to do a little trick or treating. It was so cute watching his little bottom wiggle as he went up to their front door. He was pretty excited about his new little bus he got from Grandma and Grandpa. He tried to blow his whistle from Aunt Tami, but just couldn't make the noise. Maybe next year!

In addition to trick or treating we met up with our friends at the Hallelujah Carnival. Logan was a little too young to play the games, but he sure did love running around with Batman and playing on the slide outside. Logan did think it was pretty neat to get a "bee" balloon made...or at least Mommy did!

I think Batman was a little upset to be stuck in the backseat with a Bee!

Happy Reformation Day!
